Meadow Bank Estate
       The Winery
The first Meadowbank Estate grapes were planted in 1974, just two years before Gerald and Sue Ellis purchased “Meadowbank” at Glenora in 1976. Initially there was less than a hectare of vines, today there are two businesses, two vineyard sites and almost 50 hectares of vines.
Meadowbank Estate embraces low chemical input growing techniques, reducing and delaying disease and pest control sprays where ever possible. The Meadowbank Estate vineyards enjoy a true cool climate, with ‘heat degree days’ (a measure of ripening capacity) similar in range to the super premium wine growing regions of the world, such as Burgundy & Bordeaux.
Meadowbank Estate also manages vineyards for a contract grower of sparkling varieties for leading national winemaker BRL Hardy.

The Wine
Meadowbank Estate is a specialist producer of premium Tasmanian wines. Fruit is sourced from their own estate vineyards located in two of Tasmania’s premium viticultural regions: the Derwent Valley and the Coal River Valley. A range of varietal styles are produced to optimise the microclimates and soils of the regions including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet.
Of the 300 tonne total crush, approximately half is sold to BRL Hardy for their premium wines. Total production under the Meadowbank label is around 10,000 cases – most of which is sold on the domestic market with some export sales to Denmark, Germany and Hong Kong.
