| The Winery Since 1919, the Liebich family have been growing grapes and making wine at Rowland Flat in the Barossa Valley. Five generations of Liebichs have followed on the tradition of winemaking, with Ron Liebich currently being one of the most consistent wine makers in the Barossa Valley. Liebichwein began in 1992, by Ron Liebich, with the production of grapes crushed increasing each year. The Vineyard captures cool gully breezes in summer and escapes frost in winter, as it is situated on eastern slopes of the beautiful Rowland Flat. Ron has a great love for his wine and vines and has a large emphasis on quality not quantity, which is definitely shown through his wines. |
The Wine The Merlot has been named after Samuel Hoffmann, a master Potter who settled on the Liebich property in 1848. The fruit was picked from 15 year old vines at 14.8 Baume late in the season to give this wine optimal flavour. This wine's brilliant colour and flavour has been gained from the traditional methods used, such as hand plunging of the skins, basket pressing and non-filtration. 15 months of oak maturation in various age Nevers and Vosgues hogsheads have given the wine its deep and rich oak and spice flavours. |

Aromas of dark cherries, cinnamon fruitcake and smoky oak draw you into the ripe red currant and spicy flavours. Fine-grain tannins, viscosity and a long, sweet finish feature in this wine. One of the most full-bodied yet still elegant Barossa Merlots you will come across, with a dusty cedar oak and cherry nose and a long, smooth palate. | ||
