| The Winery Lethbridge Wines is located in the Geelong wine growing region of Victoria and was founded by three scientists, Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas. The vineyard was originally planted in 1874 by Swiss immigrants, and was replanted by the current owners in 1996. The wines are produced on site in small quantity but with absolute care resulting in great wines of exception flavour and quality. Every detail, starting with the precise timing of picking the grapes, to the types of barrels and corks used, given attentive consideration. Ray Nadeson says, “It is true that the vineyard has the greatest effect on the quality of the finished wine, but there’s a long time between the harvest date and the bottling date, and every minute of that time is important. | Usually by the end of fermentation I have a fair idea what the ‘personality’ of the wine is going to be and I try to nurture it accordingly.
Our aim is to retain this intrinsic ‘personality’ so that when the wine reaches the drinker it reflects both its origins and its careful creation." The Wine The fruit for the 2003 Lethbridge Indra Shiraz is sourced from the Indra Block on the Estate Vineyard noted for fruit of intensity and structure. (Indra is named after Ray and Maree’s eldest daughter.) The vine material planted has been selected from some of the oldest shiraz clones in Australia. The Indra block is also co-planted with 55 Viognier vines making the Indra Shiraz a field blend of Shiraz and Viognier. |

| Tasting Notes | ||
| The wine displays a deep purple colour with a powerful bouquet of spicy, cracked pepper and anise that overlays a palate which exhibits complex Rhone characteristics of ripe dark cherry, black olives and truffles. The wine is supported by a tight acid backbone and fine integrated tannins, which will ensure it develops well over the next 3-5 years. | ||
