| The Winery Situated in the south of the state in the picturesque Huon Valley is Home Hill Winery and Restaurant. This stunning building of rammed earth and glass is the vision of owners Terry and Rosemary Bennett and is a family owned business. Planting first began at Home Hill in 1993, with the grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sylvaner. These varieties were chosen because of the climatic conditions of the area. The Huon Valley exhibits very cold winters with fog, frost and snow and an abundance of rain in the winter extending through spring. The Wine This wines from this vineyard are derived from grapes that thrive on long slow ripening, giving the wines an intense flavour. Home Hill wines have received many awards at shows throughout Australia beginning with the first vintage Pinot Noir in 1998. The most recent success has been with this the 2005 Pinot Noir, which received the following awards in 2006: National Boutique Wines of Australia Awards 2006 Gold Medal, Best Pinot Noir of Show Trophy, Best Estate Grown & Produced Wine Trophy. National Cool Climate Wine Show 2006 Champion Wine of Show, Champion Dry Red Table Wine, Champion Pinot Noir. Tasting Notes - Home Hill 2005 Pinot Noir This wine displays an abundance of black cherry & strawberry fruit with a sprinkle of spice. It has a ripe and generous mid palate, the hallmark of a superb Pinot Noir. A smooth, silky textured wine. This wine sits at the rich voluptuous end of the spectrum. |
