Since being in Australia, my researching and learning on wine has had me amazed by the vast array available.
Today, I find myself appreciating Australian wines and wineries that best suit and appeal to the Asian palate.
From my home in wine-rich South Australia, I am constantly spoilt with countless opportunities to learn and appreciate Australia’s many wine varieties and regions.
Through my national tourism business - Encounter Australia – and, more specifically, being the first in Australia to launch premium wine tourism packages for individuals and groups from Asia, Europe and US, I have been fortunate to visit over 500 Australian wineries and therefore know first hand the interesting characteristics and peculiarities prevalent in boutique with small-production wineries across this vast country.
Originally from Brunei and traveling extensively throughout Asia for business, I often ask myself if I would be lucky enough to enjoy the best of Australia’s boutique wines while in Asia. The answer is a resounding and unfortunate ‘No.’
Indeed, when entertaining clients, family, and friends in Asia, I find that the choice of exciting, small-production, Australian wines is highly limited.
Given the increasing popularity of wine in Asia, I have thus decided to take up the challenge by founding Top 8 Wines.
The concept of Top 8 Wines is to present collections of Australia’s best boutique wines which are most suited to the palate of a particular Asian market and contain a unique fun story in the increasing ‘clutter’ of unoriginal wine labels.
I fully embrace the reality that the Asian continent, far from being homogenous, contains a number of different countries and regions – each with their distinct identity and needs. Hence, the collections offered by Top 8 Wines vary from market to market in order to fully account for the wonderful diversity of Asia.
These boutique wineries, as a result of their small production capacities, are rarely mass marketed and distributed in Asia. In fact, it is likely that you will never have heard of some of these wines so please join us as we take you through a taste and tactile journey of Australia’s best boutique wines.
All wines go through rigorous scrutiny from an appointed panel of experts who know wine and who, just as importantly, know the varying demands of consumers in Asia. Each collection is highly graded and commendable to the extent that any wine carried by Top 8 Wines will be of the utmost quality considering its final market destination.
